You Think Having A Newborn Is Hard?! "Just wait..."

You think having a newborn is hard?! “Just wait…”

The amount of times I have heard the phrase “just wait” thrown around in conversations surrounding motherhood is far too many.

“You think having a newborn is hard? Just wait…”

“You think having one baby is hard? Just wait…”

“Your baby is sleeping really well? Just wait…”

“You think traveling is hard now? Just wait…”

“You think being pregnant is hard? Just wait…”

Hearing these things is never helpful. Yet we hear them all the time. As a mom, it is okay to complain about something that is hard in the moment… because it is hard. It is amazing to hear about the things to look forward to and what is to come, but let’s not forget to live in the moment a little bit.

There is nothing quite like having a group of friends where you can ask “Did this/is this happening to you too? How did you get through it and when did it get easier?” I know that those questions have helped me more than a few times and I know that is a hell of a lot more helpful than google. These are the same friends that don’t tell you how hard the next phase is going to be, because they know not to rain on your parade. They also realize there is a lot of good that comes in the next phase, even if it is just as hard.

A few things that you can “just wait” for, if you are expecting or are a new mom:

  • When they start saying “I love you mommy” in the sweetest little voice.

  • When they run across the room to give you a hug.

  • When they can let the dogs in and out of the house.

  • When they help you cook dinner and are actually helpful.

  • When they comfort their little sister/brother with their favorite stuffed animal.

  • When they tell you that you are doing a great job.

  • When you can go on a walk with them and have a conversation and not bring a stroller everywhere.

  • When you lip sync the same songs and have dance parties every night in the kitchen.

  • When they want to go on dinner dates with you.

  • When they pick out their own outfits and have the craziest/best sense of style.

  • When they ask to be your best friend.

  • When simple days at home are suddenly the thing that you look forward to the most.

  • When you have movie nights on the couch with popcorn.

  • When you realize being a mom is hard as hell but so rewarding.

Just you wait, it gets even better.
